Webb City’s Sewage Sludge to Help Reclaim Mined Land

Webb City, MO (7/9/15) – Webb City is working with officials from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Missouri Department of Natural Resource to develop a composting solution that will allow wastewater sludge to be used as topsoil for land being reclaimed and restored by the EPA. Currently the sludge contains levels of zinc not accepted by regulations, but under the new plan the sludge would be mixed with compost to dilute zinc levels. The first top soil applications are planned for the spring of 2016.
